ChangeWave公司的一份最新报告显示，消费者对智能手机的兴趣越来越浓，尤其是苹果的iPhone。我们上周曾报道了AdMob的统计数据，数据显示智能手机正在代替功能手机，成为消费者的首选。在暴利的智能手机市场中，黑莓依然领先iPhone，但ChangeWave的数据表明这个差距越来越小。
我们预计用不了多久苹果就会超过RIM（黑莓手机的制造商），成为智能手机市场的执牛耳者。
RIM的市场份额正在下滑，而苹果的市场份额在上升。在ChangeWave的这份报告中，RIM市场份额为40%，领先苹果10个百分点。这主要是因为iPhone 3GS的发布为苹果带来了5个百分点的增加。与此同时，Palm的市场份额持续下滑，只有7%。

Priced at $2.99, Tweetie’s the top-paid app in the Social Networking section of the store.
New features in version 2 include an offline mode, new-message indicators, full landscape support, video uploads (for 3GS users), and faster overall performance.

AT&T on Tuesday announced that VoIP apps can now run on the iPhone using the carrier’s 3G network.
Previously, VoIP apps on the iPhone were only enabled for Wi-Fi connectivity, not 3G. But AT&T said it has taken steps so that Apple can enable VoIP apps on the iPhone.
“[The] iPhone is an innovative device that dramatically changed the game in wireless when it was introduced just two years ago,” Ralph de la Vega, president and CEO of AT&T Mobility & Consumer Markets, said in a statement. “Today’s decision was made after evaluating our customers’ expectations and use of the device compared to dozens of others we offer.”
AT&T said it notified Apple and the Federal Communications Commission of the move.
In an August filing with the FCC, AT&T said it would “take a fresh look at possibly authorizing VoIP capabilities on the iPhone for use on AT&T’s 3G network.” Read the rest of this entry »

The international roaming calling rates are bad enough, but data usage is what really delivers the sting. The root of the problem is that the iPhone, with all its apps, positively inhales data. RealNetworks wants to put Rhapsody, its music subscription service, on the iPhone. The application has been submitted to Apple and, if approved, will offer users unlimited music streaming over Wi-Fi, 3G and Edge for $15 per month.

Similar in size to the iPhone 3GS, the HTC Hero has a slightly smaller display than Apple’s smartphone. Color, clarity, and viewing angles are similar and we really didn’t notice the smaller size when using the Hero. Both of these smartphones use capacitive touch screens and both support multitouch technology.
In a letter to the FCC, AT&T acknowledged that Apple and AT&T have an agreement to block VoIP apps from using AT&T’s cellular networks, but that VoIP apps that use Wi-Fi are OK. Here’s a selection from the letter.
…AT&T and Apple agreed that Apple would not take affirmative steps to enable an iPhone to use AT&T’s wireless service (including 2G, 3G and Wi-Fi) to make VoIP calls without first obtaining AT&T’s consent. AT&T and Apple also agreed, however, that if a third party enables an iPhone to make VoIP calls using AT&T’s wireless service, Apple would have no obligation to take action against that third party.
